 Art Sprunger - Director
 

Art is the Founder and Director of New Hope and Freedom Counseling and Therapy, New Hope and Freedom Ministries, Inc. and NHF Consulting and  Counsel. He has over three decades of experience in counseling and psychotherapy. He has His focus has been directed toward individual, couples, family, child and adolescent counseling and therapy. He has provided over 23,000 hours of professional one-on-one counseling and therapy.


Art was elected and served as President of the Counseling Association of Greater Philadelphia, one of the oldest professional counseling associations in America. He was also served with and was instrumental in the founding of the Pennsylvania Counselors Specializing in Couples and Families. He served four terms on the State Executive Board of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association. He has been active in numerous professional associations, serving in various capacities.

 

He has served as Executive Director of the United Association Of Christian Counselors, International, was a Charter Member of American Association of Christian Counselors. 

 

In addition to his position with New Hope and Freedom and NHF Consulting and Counsel, he has worked as a therapist, counselor, and branch director in Wilmington, DE and Center City Philadelphia, PA  for The Counseling Center Incorporated; as a therapist, counselor for Huntingdon Valley Counseling Services; and as a faculty member of the Institute For Marriage and Family Living – Huntingdon Valley, PA.

 
He is a graduate of Lancaster Bible College, receiving a diploma equivalent to an Associates in Bible. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Bible, Ancient Greek and Psychology at Grace College, and did his graduate studies toward a Masters of Divinty at Grace Theological Seminary, also in Winona Lake, Indiana. He earned a Master of Arts through Baptist University, USA, 1981, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology, 1984. He was honored with a Doctor of Divinity degree by Great Commission Theological Seminary in 1982 and with a Doctor of Humane Letters by Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1986.

 

He was licensed and ordained to the Christain ministry in 1979, having pastored several Grace Brethren and Independent congregations in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio and Delaware. He also directed the district youth programs for the Grace Brethren denomination in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

 

Art is married, and has a son and two step-daughters and six grandchildren.

  

He utilizes a Biblically consistent and balanced holistic approach to therapy, stressing the importance of health, harmony and freedom of the whole person: physically, mentally, emotionally, volitionally, spiritually, behaviorally and socially. He is the author of "Emancipation Therapy," a theoretical approach to counseling psychology which emphasizes that the goal of mental health counseling and therapy is the experience of personal emancipation and ownership over one's entire life. There are numerous theoretical methodologies which may help the client accomplish this, but the key focus is personal freedom to be all that the client wants to be before God.
